Let’s have a race that’s not  about race.

No, you say, our elections have never known color

(It was always understood that the President would be white.)


“I have a dream,” his deep voice thundered,

And some listened and some heard

The plea to be aware  of  the elephant in the room


A beautiful black woman in a sparkling white dress

Dancing at the ball with the handsome black President -

“Black”’ you say, incredulously

“President”, you say, these words never before heard together.

And America listens and America rejoices

At the race that’s not about race.
